20 X Luis Alberto Green Bean Pouches
Who is Luis Alberto?
Un Regalo de Dios, translated into English, ‘A Gift from God’, is the name of Luis Alberto’s farm in Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua. Located 1700 meters above sea level, which even for a coffee farm is a very high altitude, Luis says his farm “feels like a coffee oasis” and we most definitely agree.
Coffee was introduced to Nicaragua in the late 1700’s and once you understand a bit about the recent history of Nicaragua, then you understand why Luis Alberto has such an appreciation for his farm and community. For example, the 1970’s to 1990’s was a time of political instability, the Reagan Administration banned Nicaraguan import products and it was only in recent years that Sandinistas (members of political party which led charge against American occupation in 1930’s, but infamously exposed as being funded by the CIA in 1980’s) have returned farms to the local families.
Today, Nicaragua as a location has many “micro-climates” and varietals, the new infrastructure continues to grow and improve cultivation, traceability and over-all quality in their beans. Nicaragua is now quickly gaining a reputation as one of the most diverse origins in the Specialty Coffee world.
As Luis Alberto’s popularity has increased, so has the quality of his beans. Luis has a few farms, but Un Regalo de Dios is his “baby” and there is no questioning the tasty flavors you get with his beans. We have paired Alberto’s beans with a dark roast, offering a balanced spicy flavor, highlighting vanilla cookie and orange.
